The Tanzanian NGO SHIPO gives training to local welders and drillers to provide products such as rope pumps and manual drilling. Using a market-based approach, households and institutions can benefit from products and services to improve their own water supplies (self supply). This report documents the achievements of an intervention to develop the capacity of the local private sector. It presents issues and ideas on reaching rural households and assuring the quality of products and services.
