Sharing Lessons from Multiple-Use Water Services (MUS) Nepal Network

Description:

Multiple-Use Water Services (MUS) provides water for drinking, domestic use, and productive activities, irrigation, livestock, small enterprises, from integrated systems. Over two decades of MUS implementation in Nepal demonstrates that MUS is economically viable, socially equitable, and essential for rural livelihoods.

This book is a compilation of the rich experiences and lessons learnt of implementation and upscaling of Multiple-Use water Services (MUS) in Nepal. Nepal has over two decades of experience in MUS, particularly in community-managed systems. The initiative began with gravity-fed water supply systems and later expanded to include solar-powered water-lifting MUS systems. MUS systems integrate domestic and various productive uses, such as small-scale irrigation, livestock and Pico/Micro-hydropower. These productive uses are promoted by introducing high-value crops and markets in agricultural value chains, contributing significantly to improving the livelihoods of rural communities.
