What drives the performance of rural piped water supply facilities in Ghana
A mixed methods observational study

Description:

For most performance metrics, the observed differences among the three management arrangements (community/public/safe water enterprise) were unexpectedly modest. No management arrangement performed the best across all metrics. WSMT-managed facilities experienced more frequent major breakdowns than CWSA-managed facilities, and both CWSA and SWE facilities provided service for a slightly higher number of hours per day than WSMT-managed systems. The immediate implication of this finding is that investment and support for piped water systems are more important than the management arrangement under which they operate per se.
