U.S. foundation funding for WASH comprises less than 2% of U.S. foundation giving for international causes.

From 2009 to 2010, 30% of all grant dollars went to Africa, the largest share of any geographic region, while 18% went to Asia and 9% went to Central/South America.
The largest proportion of foundation grant dollars support water sector policy and administration (20%), followed by basic drinking water supply (17%), WASH research (14%), and basic sanitation (14%).
